Vets welcomed

After a pin is placed on his lapel, Vietnam veteran Bob Maroney salutes his comrades during a pinning ceremony Tuesday at Buffalo Crossings Assisted Living. The ceremony is part of the Department of Defense’s effort to recognize every veteran who served in the war. Cindy Skop, Daily Sun

The great room at Buffalo Crossings Assisted Living facility was filled with veterans, family members and an entourage of Marine Corps League members Tuesday morning, all on hand for a special pinning ceremony to honor veterans for their service in the Vietnam War. In May 2012, Congress authorized a national commemoration effort to honor the 9 million veterans who served during the Vietnam War era, from Nov.1, 1955 to May 15, 1975. Since then, teams of officials have scoured the nation to find veterans who qualify, present them with a special pin to thank them for their service and say, “Welcome home.”
